I’d planned meals (supper tonight for me, Jules, Petal
& Frank, lunch tomorrow for the four of us, supper tomorrow evening for
Petal, Norma and me, lunch on Friday for Petal, Norma, Rhian and me) so went
off to Sainsbury’s after lunch. Weird – I go to Sainsbury’s every Wednesday afternoon – this was
just an hour or so earlier than usual – but it didn’t feel at all the same.
It’s as though I’m carrying an enormous banner that says “this person is
getting married in two days’ time”, but only I’m aware of it.
Petal and Frank arrived about 5.30. It is really good to have them here – their
support makes it all a bit less overwhelming, somehow. We’d put a bottle of
bubbly in the fridge, and they brought one with them as well, so I guess you
could say the celebrations have started. Despite (or perhaps because of!)
alcoholic influence, we managed to sort out the logistics of who’s going to be
using which car, and when, so we don’t end up with people and no transport, or
cars with no-one to drive them to where they need to be: all five of us (me,
Jules, Petal, Frank & Norma) will go down to the rehearsal tomorrow
afternoon in one car (probably Frank’s, as it’s bigger than ours) and come back
in the same car; Jules and Frank will then disappear in Frank’s car, and of
course Frank will drive Jules to church tomorrow. Celia needs to be at the
church to act as usher, she thinks, about 4.00pm, so she’ll take Norma with her
in our car, and drive it to Brookhouse after the service (taking Norma with
her) as Jules and I will be travelling to Brookhouse in Jeff’s jag. We’ll worry
about how to get our car home from Brookhouse later. I, of course, don’t have
to worry about driving at all …
Jules & I took the carafes, cake, place markers
and cds down to Brookhouse just after 6.30. The conservatory is already laid
out with the three round tables, and a separate small table for the cake. I
wondered what happens when we arrive – we can’t give an exact time, so do we
announce ourselves? - but Karen says
they will be waiting for us (of course they will; why didn’t I think of that!)
and if the weather’s good, which it’s still promising to be, we can all go into
the garden for pics to be taken.
